Lina Kara is a pen name. We have no data protection officer because we are not legally required to have one.
2. Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA (Cloudflare Pages). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data: your IP address, date and time of access, the page requested, the referrer and browser information. This is needed to deliver the website securely and reliably and to fend off attacks. We do not evaluate this data ourselves.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in a secure and functioning website). We have a data processing agreement with Cloudflare. For transfers to the USA, Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses also apply.
The connection to this website is encrypted with TLS (https).
3. No cookies, no tracking
This website sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and uses no analytics, tracking or advertising tools. That is why there is no cookie banner. Fonts are loaded from our own server, so there is no connection to Google.
4. Contact by email and contact form
If you write to us by email or through the contact form, we process your name (optional), your email address and your message in order to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your request relates to a contract or pre-contractual steps, and otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (our interest in answering enquiries).
Messages from the form are passed through a Cloudflare Worker to Brevo and delivered from there to us by email (see section 5). Emails to contact@linakara.com are forwarded by Cloudflare (Email Routing) to our mailbox at Google (Gmail, Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). If you also tick the newsletter box in the contact form, section 5 applies to that sign-up (double opt-in: only your confirmation by email counts). We delete enquiries once they are dealt with and no legal retention duty applies.
5. Newsletter
For the newsletter and for sending emails we use Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, 106 boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris, France). The data is stored on servers in the EU. We have a data processing agreement with Brevo.
Sign-up uses the double opt-in procedure: after you enter your address you receive an email in which you confirm your subscription. Only then do we add you to the list. We store your email address and the time of sign-up and confirmation so that we can prove your consent. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR).
We only write when a new book comes out or one of our books is on sale on Kindle, and we send you the bonus scene to the book once as a thank-you. We do not measure whether or when you open our emails or click links in them. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email or by writing to us. We then delete your address from the list. We may keep the proof of your earlier consent for up to three years.
6. Early reader list (ARC)
If you apply as an early reader, we process your email address and your confirmation that you are 18 or older. Sign-up uses double opt-in through Brevo, like the newsletter (see section 5). We only write to you about advance copies of our books. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time, and we then delete your data.
7. Links to social networks
We link to our TikTok and Instagram profiles with simple links only. No plugins are embedded. Data is only transferred to the respective provider once you click a link, and that provider’s privacy policy applies.
8. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You can withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)). An email to contact@linakara.com is enough.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (ldi.nrw.de), which is responsible for us.
You are not obliged to give us your data. Without an email address, however, we cannot answer you or send you a newsletter. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
